Here
are easy voice placement exercises taken from my book to help focusing
your voice properly in the face and get you ready to
start your
school day :
Warm-up
#4: Lip Bubbles
This one
is a lot of fun and
known worldwide for its effectiveness.
Most singers use the lip bubbles to warm-up their
voice and place it in
the mask therefore so should you!
a)
Seal you lips
together.
b) Take a
deep breath
through your nose. Watch
for your
posture; stand up straight!
c) Push
the air out of
your mouth using your support to produce a sound and let your
lips vibrate on lip bubbles.
Start
at the very bottom of
your range. Than,
go up to your very
top. You can make
your pitch go up and
down all you want! It
takes quite a
considerate amount of air pressure to achieve this.
You should feel your diaphragm pulling down and a
buzzing
sensation on and around your lips.
d) Remember
to keep
the tip of your tongue forward and
slightly on top
of your front lower
teeth.
e) Your lips
must
remain absolutely relaxed to be able to pull this off.
If you’re not successful, it means your
lips
are too tensed; relax!
f) Repeat a
few times!
Warm-up
#5: Lip Bubble Variations
These
exercises start the same way as the one above except that you will
break them in half to allow your speaking voice to be heard on a
specific
sound or vowel.
a)
Seal you lips
together.
b) Take a
deep breath
through your nose. Watch
for your
posture; stand up straight!
c) Push the air out of
your mouth using your support to produce a sound and let your lips
vibrate on lip bubbles. Start
at
the very bottom of
your range. Than,
go up to your very
top.
d) Open your
mouth on
the sound “ah”.
e) From the top of your
range, slide down to the bottom of it.
f) Repeat five times!
g) You can do the same
exercise starting at the top of your range with the lip bubbles than
opening
your mouth at the bottom and slide back up on “ah”.
h) Another variation is to choose different sounds to sing
on.
The English "e'" and the French sound "on" work particularly
well.
